It was a warm evening on Kerbin. Noah Kermin, surrounded by the KSC facilities do not notice. Amid the successful first flights, there seem to be problems, not with the program itself, but with what the program has turned up.
Jebediah is missing, lost in the Great Desert, but, hopes are that he survived by tracking northwords towards the greener northern reageons.
The first polar-orbiting earth-mapping satellite is ready; so the great Kerbal rocket-scientist, Tomtop has informed him. Noah runs the KSC, but lately he feels more out of control. A lot happening that he does not understand.
First things first, get a polar-orbiting salelite into orbit, 70-130km altitude, passing within 90km of the poles.

"I have taken the strange symbols and assigned a letter to each. I hope this will make it easier to understand what it means" Tigabot was explaining to the group. Earlier he explained how it came that the Obelisk was found, that it contained strange symbols and that this probably means that it was created by a prior civilization on Kerbin.
"So, he continues, this language must have been used by an ancient race. Perhaps their ancestors lived here, where KSC is built, and they fished on these shores."
"Here is the encoding, we need to make sense of it" he said and pointed to the text.

Kerbin
Molniya-type orbit over Great Desert

Harop was listening to a speech by Wernher on time-syncronous orbits. The importance of a geostationary orbit is not the height, or the speed of the craft, rather, it is the orbital period. The orbital period needs to be the same as the rotational period (the length of a day), on Kerbin this is 6 hours. Any satellite with a 6 hour period will stay roughly in the same location above the planet, even if the orbit is not perfectly circular.
This was exciting stuff, Harop thought. He has been part of the trainee group, and, hoping to get more flights since the 45km flight a few months back. So, Harop wondered, what would happen if the orbit was highly excentric, but with a 6 hour period?
"As you know, a satellite picked up an SOS signal while flying over the great desert. The signal was weak, and we could not get a bearing. Therefore, we need a satellite that can do two things, stay over the desert for long periods, but also have a low periapsis so that we can take images of the surface in the area where we detect the signals."
"A-ha!" Harop said softly, to himself. Wernher continued "A Molniya orbit is good for this, it has a high apoapsis, a low periapsis, but a period of 6 hours, keeping it geo-located around the desert, most of the time it is at high-altitude, but because of the low periapsis, the satelite gets into position to take high-resolution images.
An easy, but inefficient way to do it is to ceate a circular orbit at the apoapsis height. Then, wait for the satellite to be over the target area and retro-grade burn the periapsis down, until the period is 6 hours.

The code-cracking team had been established. Tigabot put the full message found on the Obelisk, translated into Alphabet symbols onto the screen. The task of the team was to find the meaning of each symbol.

"We have found him!" Tigabot was shoting to Tomtop from about 50 meters away. This was followed by 20 minutes of explaining that the The Molniya satellite picked up intermittent signals, about 3 hours appart, and only lasting a few seconds. The signals were strong initially but faded quite quickly over time. This is the type of signal that would be very difficult to detect with a low-orbit satellite that passes overhead only briefly.
After this lengthy explination and fielding a fiew questions from his friend, he comes to the main point "It seems that the signals originate from this valley", pointing to a spot just north of the great Desert. Noah will probably task you within the next few hours to build a lander-vehicle that can be used for a resque mission to that valley. We would want it to make a parrachutte drop to a designated area and then drive into the valley."
This is a precision landing (2km radius), perhaps MechJeb can help.
----
While on his way to Noah, the head of Kerbalnaut training ran into Harop. "Have you seen the reports, it seems that we have landed very close to where we think the signals originate." In fact, the Kerbalnaut on the ground reported buildings of some sort, in the distance, too far to clearly identify what kind of buildings or what it is used for.

The landing was successful. The target area at the entrance of the valley has been reached. The next step in the exploration is to carefully explore the valley itself. Investigate the various buildings that can be observed in the distance.

"Alpha-site to KSC, we have found another one..."
"Alpha, can you repeat that we had a comms break"
"KSC, there is an Obelisk here. It seems to have similar symbology. Now sending through an image"
